How not to Charity

A woman approaches me on the street, “Hey there!” She displays an awkwardly hand written sign that reads, “10¢"… (Didn’t get a look at the rest.) I continue walking but maintain eye contacting her waiting for the pitch. A few seconds pass wherein she says nothing. I am confused, turn away and keep walking. She says, "Okay. Thanks anyways. Have a good day.” “Yeah, you too.”
Moral of the story: If you want someone to give you money they need to know what it’s for. You can have a confusing sign and a pink shirt but that doesn’t automatically lend you legitimacy. Especially if you’re alone, just walking up to people in the street and saying nothing.
